You're Doing a PhD in What?

PhD Student in Adelaide studying the digital publishing of comic books. A blog for all the cool things I stumble upon on this journey
This week I picked up High Crimes #4 by Christopher Sebela and Ibrahim Moustafa and published by MonkeyBrain Comics. High Crimes has been a great series so far, mixing alpine adventure, grave robbing and crazy secret agents as well as being surprisingly educational due to Sebela’s essays at the end of each issue detailing a lot of the history of Everest. I never thought I’d write a sentence that had alpine adventure, grave robbing, crazy secret agents and educational in it but there you go, High Crimes is just that damn good.

I’m really starting to like Zan, she has a lot of layers and is a well-developed if a little fucked up character. High Crimes, overall, is also a masterclass in page composition and panel layout. It is often simple, but very effective. I particularly like the way it leaves enough space for the background color of the page to come through. Something about it makes the images standout more. Anyway you should totally start reading High Crimes right now, each issue is only 99c and available digitally so there is no excuse why you aren’t reading it right now!
